'a Dwelling for 2 Shadows'
an artist's studio in Maryland
2024 AW, Meaningless
Designed for full-time contemporary artist, Jarrett Arnold, ‘Dwelling for 2 Shadows’ is an artist studio in Maryland.
This art studio is designed for the artist's ritual, with themes of survival woven through elements of the project such as the mono-pitch shape and charred cedar siding. Referencing themes from the artist's work, this project sets the stage for a story told through material and shadow movement as the days pass. We arrived at a form of architecture that could be practiced with easy-to-source, inexpensive materials, and simple construction methods. To be constructed and finished later this year (2024). Being an artist is a form of survival.

Through narrative and atmosphere, this project tells the story of the artist, his conflict with dreams, and his survival. The idyllic image of home and the true self.
a dwelling for two shadows and the forces that breathed on it don't just speak on what it means to be an artist, but your true self. In this world, being your true self is a form of survival.
