envy [murder] at the van cortlandt
A library extension in the context of the Van Cortlandt House Museum. there was already an extension that dealt with reception and housing for the current groundskeeper. Therefore, as if in a fit of envy, the extension was sliced in four and among the severed remains, lies a rare-book library
---------------------------
[ghosts]
An extension can not be torn down without replacing what will be lost. The severed remains of the
extension remain scattered on the grounds with each, acting as a “folly” that serves a designated purpose such as   housing or reception.
To connect them, there is a tunnel system that takes the groundskeeper and staff to and from each folly so that they may continue to act as a unified whole.
Nothing is lost.

[the library]
A library that contrasts the appearance of the Van Cortlandt House Museum while aligning in its elevational measurements and square   footage.

[rare books]
Rare books are a vessel of knowledge which must only be reserved for those who explicitly wish to seek it because of their value and rarity.
The patrons must request their desired book from the librarian who will retrieve it from the underground level where they will be safe from the light.
Must be handled with care.

.
the assignment was to design an addition to the
        van cortlandt house museum.
              but an addition already exists
                        the caretaker’s house...

                envy results in
                                    architectural murder
        now as a reminder,
the remains of the previous addition haunt the    grounds

an envious monster and ghosts of the past
