Through analysis of the rockaways,
we found that they are a very unpleasant place to be in during the winter.
Since it is a beach town, it is optimized for tourists, therefore the locals are often overlooked.
We aimed to create a bridge from summer to summer that engages with RISE initiatives such as wellness way

The plan shows two conditioned bars with an interstitial grated space. This space is used more as a public structure and is semi-conditioned.
The sequence + uses of this space is the subject of the unrolled+traverse sections.
By having these three streams of
conditioning , we create a sheltered but unconditioned middle giving the locals of the rockaways an outdoor spot to enjoy without the fierce climate conditions.
As for MEP, the double bar building enables two separate plumbing + HVAC systems for each so that they can be better calibrated for each indivdual building’s needs

The project tectonically and organizationally mimics the train station
adjacent to the site. With the explicit connection that takes one from the station to the project, we were able to unify what rise has been doing with the train bridge [wellness way] with our project. A parasite growing off of wellness way that begins to thicken.

depicts the site flooded + unflooded and how the project aids the community in that.
the project is accesible from the train station which tranforms into a dock during emergency climate for boats. In addition, the interstitial space is able to house the program that is lost on the ground floor form the flooding. everything moves up.
